Are You For Real?

The other day, I was in the parking lot of Costco and as I was approaching the entrance, I observed a lady pushing her cart back. What was interesting in this case, was that instead of returning her cart to the area where all the available carts were located, she conveniently pushed it against a wall a mere foot away! It puzzled me as it wasn’t as though she didn’t see the mass amounts of shopping carts and it wasn’t as though it would have taken a whole lot of effort to put it with the others.

The reality is, though it wouldn’t have taken a whole lot of effort, it would take effort and this is what distinguishes ordinary people from Exceptional Rockstars.

Ordinary people do what is convenient. Exceptional Rockstars do what is right.

Ordinary people make excuses. Exceptional Rockstars go above and beyond.

Ordinary people compare themselves to others. Exceptional Rockstars compare themselves to who they used to be.

Ladies and Gents, your life is taking place right now and you alone get to choose how you will live it.

Ordinary folks live ordinary lives.

Exceptional Rockstars live lives that ordinary people only dream of.

What type of person will you choose to be? What type of life will you choose to live?

The choice is yours. It has and always will be.

Be Reckless.

Without your sight, would you still have vision?

 

With sight, I see the world according to Twitter and Facebook.

With vision, I see a world longing for connection and meaning.

With sight, I see big box stores opening up everywhere.

With vision, I see people longing for purpose.

With sight, I see people “tuning”out into their own little worlds.

With vision, I see people “tuning” in to places where they feel they matter.

With sight, I see new stories of anger, hurt, and violence.

With vision, I see a generation longing to change the way we do/create/live…to make it better each day.

Ladies and gents, though our sight is important, without vision our sight can lead us astray.

May we use our words to speak love, ears to listen with compassion and understanding, sight to see with vision and kindness, and strength to build people up vs. tear them down…you and I are that Powerful.

Run For Your Life

The other day, I was driving back from an appointment and enjoying the beautiful scenery until…I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed a cop behind me. All of a sudden as if on cue, my heart started racing, I scanned to try and find the closest speed limit sign (I was on a country road) and I began conversing with myself as to whether I was doing something wrong.

Please don’t stop me. Please don’t turn your siren on. Please stop following me. And repeat.

Yes folks, somehow, driving in front of a cop car makes me panic. Why? Because I immediately wonder if I’m doing something wrong and praying to God that I am not. The funny thing is, I know cops and they are awesome people. They are caring and compassionate, brave and courageous, and kind souls. Yet somehow I never think of these sentiments when I’m driving near a cop.

How often in our lives does our perception deceive us?

How often do we let our perception scare the living bajeebers out of us and bring out unnecessary feelings/bodily responses?

Truth be told, I was doing nothing wrong.

And if I were, I should have been scared.

Driving whether on the road or in life is about being responsible and accountable.

You only have to fear if you’ve done something wrong.

 

Otherwise, keep driving and doing your thing because before you know it, the cop (and/or fear) will turn the corner

…atleast that’s what happened in my case.

The Four Letter Word

I was chatting with my dad the other day and he said, “your brother thinks you’re rich!”

I replied, “Oh really? Why is that?”

His response, “because you eat organic food.”

I laughed.

Perception is funny. It can lead us to believe things, justify ways of being, and make judgements without understanding.

Perception in essence is how we see the world…how we CHOOSE to see the world and those in it.

 

The reason I laughed was because if you asked me a year ago re: organic food, I may have made a similar statement in that “It’s expensive,” “It’s the food of the rich.”

And then something happened.

I realized, it was simply a matter of perception, which meant it was simply a matter of choice.

• I used to be the girl who would skimp on food at the mall so that she had more to spend on other things like clothes and such.
• I used to be the girl who would buy food items because they were on sale and not necessarily because they were healthy.
• I used to be the girl who trusted blindly in our food industry that everything they were creating was for our good. Why else would they create it/produce it/grow it? (Silly me.)

The reality, folks, is this:

What we feed ourselves (physically and metaphorically) has a big impact on the quality of our lives.

Would you put cheap gas in your expensive vehicle?

 

Being conscious of what we feed ourselves and making healthy choices are a way of life.

It is saying that I [insert your name] am more important than things.

It is saying I MATTER. My life matters.

No health, no wealth.

 

I am rich…because I choose to be. (p.s. a great resource to check out is Environmental Working Group http://www.ewg.org)

 

The F word…FOOD. It can be our best investment strategy or the thing that robs us of everything.

Overwhelmed & Out of Control

I woke up this morning feeling amazing and ready to conquer the world.

And then it happened. Within the hour, feelings of anxiousness and a sense of being overwhelmed seemed to be banging on my door.

The vision of an endless to-do list and the “times a ticking” came rushing in.

I even contemplated eating my breakfast while writing this post to save me some time.

I had two choices: carry on, on the path of destruction (led by anxious & overwhelming feelings) OR stop in my tracks, get off the treadmill and start again.

I stopped and got off the treadmill.

See folks, each day is an opportunity…or an obstacle. While to-do lists may be important, what is more important is our To-BE list. Who will you commit to being in this day ahead?

I ate my delicious & nutritious breakfast without reading a book or surfing the net. It was just me, my breakfast, and powerful silence.

It is in this silence that I re-awakened. This time to savour the moments of the day and to look at each task through the eyes of who I commit to being: grateful, calm, loving. No longer are these things “I have to do”…they are “I get to do.”

My question to you is: are you living out of mere obligation or out of privilege?

One will leave you feeling drained, miserable, and uninspired while the other will fuel you  with energy, power, and limitless potential.

The choice is yours. It always has been.
