Audience of ONE.

“Be who you are and say what you feel for those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.”-Dr. Seuss

…Then why is is that I find myself focusing on the ones who mind? Am I the only one who is guilty of this?

It is so easy to get caught up in what others think about us or rather what we think others think about us…if anything. We crave authenticity in our relationships yet find ourselves holding back or diminishing parts of ourselves in order to appease others. We long for the approval of others but when we hide or hold back parts of who we are, who are they really approving in the end?

There is no denying that I love God. It’s in my veins. It’s in every ounce of my being but when it comes to sharing this with the world, I suddenly find myself wondering “are they going to think I’m crazy?” I start flipping through everyone on my fake book and wonder, “will they think I talk about God too much?”

The real question is, “so what?”

So what if they think I’m crazy. Maybe I am crazy…crazy for an amazing God.

So what if they think I talk too much about God…if they don’t like it, they don’t have to read my posts. It’s my choice what I write about. It’s their choice if they read it.

Thinking about what others think about us is…exhausting. It more often than not leads us down a slippery slope of self doubt, needless worrying, and constant comparison. I know this oh too well.

But then it happens. Silence. Stillness. And I am reminded why I am here.

I am here to make His name great, not elevate my own.
I am here to share His love, not consume myself with who loves me.
I am here for Him, because of Him, to glorify Him.
Nothing less will suffice. Nothing less is worthy of my life…which is on loan.

The audience of ONE. How many times have I been reminded of this and how many times have I failed to live this truth?…Too many to count!

“God, we will do anything. Anything.”-This prayer was one that Zac and Jennie Allen prayed years ago and one that Drew and I recently prayed. As the words left my lips, I felt a surge of excitement as well as “WHAT. DID. WE. JUST. DO?”

The crazy thing is if you and I truly trust God, we have nothing to fear. Nothing. Not when we place our lives into the hands of an amazing God. Not when God has promised never to leave us or abandon us (Deuteronomy 31:6, Deuteronomy 31:8, Hebrews 13:5).  Not when God has promised to work ALL things out for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).

By surrendering every area of our lives, it was and is saying, “God, we trust you with everything. Everything.”

I’m still learning about just how crazy amazing this simple prayer is.

I wonder, dear friend, is there anything you are holding back?

“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else and He will give you everything you need.”-Luke 12:31
